Team TePe UK made every step count for Mouth Cancer Awareness with the 2017 Miles4Smiles initiative. Recording our steps for a week at work, play and on the sports fields, our small team of 12 recorded a pretty credible 198,729 steps raising £380 for The Oral Health Foundation (OHF).
There are, on average, almost 7,000 new cases of mouth cancer diagnosed in the UK each year. The number of new cases of mouth cancer is on the increase, and in the UK has increased by over half in the last decade alone. One of the reasons that this disease is so devastating with a less than 50% survival rate at five years after diagnosis is because of late detection. Awareness that cancers can form in the mouth is poor and so efforts to increase the awareness of this aggressive disease is crucial if we are to have a positive impact on its reduction.
The OHF are working hard to educate the public about Mouth Cancer and, as a company committed to oral health education within the professional and consumer arena’s, TePe UK were proud to have done our bit to help out.
Our support of the Foundation’s important work was further supplemented this year by making a Festive Charitable donation to the fund in lieu of our usual Christmas thankyou’s of cards and gifts to our customers and work colleagues. “We’re proud of the efforts of the UK team in raising this money for a very worthy cause” says Jayne Lunnon, TePe UK General Manager, “it promoted healthy exercise for the team which benefited a worthwhile charity – very consistent with our TePe values of wellbeing.”
