The link between diabetes and periodontitis/peri-implantitis – how can we apply the evidence to clinical practice?

Overview

This webinar explores the relationship between diabetes and periodontitis and provides practical insights to support risk assessment, individualised treatment planning, and long-term monitoring of patients with diabetes. We will review current evidence on how glycaemic control influences periodontal health and how periodontal therapy may contribute to improved metabolic control. The session will also discuss recent evidence regarding implant outcomes in this patient group.

Target group/s

Suitable for all dental professionals as well as health care workers with an interest in this field

Aims

  • To provide an evidence-based overview of how glycaemic control influences periodontal health and treatment outcomes, and how periodontal therapy may contribute to improved metabolic control in patients with diabetes.
  • To present emerging research on implant-related outcomes in patients with diabetes and discuss the implications for clinical decision-making.

Learning outcomes

  • Describe how glycaemic control influences oral health and treatment outcomes in patients with diabetes.
  • Incorporate current evidence into clinical decision-making by applying risk assessment and treatment planning strategies tailored to patients with diabetes.
